Chelsea Barracks Phase 2
In 2013, PDP London was invited by Qatari Diar to design Phase 2 (townhouses) ; Phase 3c (listed Chapel) and to deliver Phase 3a (concept design by Ben Pentreath), all within the Chelsea Barracks major redevelopment. Phase 2 comprises two terraces of family townhouses around the linear garden squares created in the north eastern part of the site. The houses reintroduce the idea of the London townhouse and express a new architectural language as graceful and as resonant of its location as its distinguished antecedent, with cues taken from the garden square and terraces of Georgian-era London. Those principles have been moulded and built upon for the demands of 21st century buyers, with open-plan living and leisure complexes.
The unusually wide plot frontages (10m for block 5 and 7m for block 4) and capacious floor to ceilings heights provide rooms for living and entertaining on a grand scale.
The development simultaneously sets ground breaking standards for low energy consumption and sustainability in a super-prime residential context.
